Depending on your definition of “cheap” cheap web design may or may not exist. The fact is a good website is going to require several areas of expertise. People who have these skills usually want to eat, buy clothes, and supply their home with electricity and so naturally they are going to want to charge money for these skills. All hope is not lost though, specifically if you are a business startup company or a sole trader, you simply do not have the money it takes to get the top-notch firms. What you can do though to find cheap web design is look for individual designers, or companies that offer templates or specialise in mass producing websites. You are going to lose a bit of individuality, and you may have to hire outside the firm or individual designer to come up with taglines, SEO, etc, but at the end of the day you are probably going to save a whole lot of money.

Whether you are selling something specific to Dublin, or you are based in Dublin, you need to be aware of Web design in Dublin and what this should entail. You understand by now that any business no matter how big or small is going to need some kind of web presence in order to survive. Nearly anyone looking for anything, whether a place to eat or a particular service or some item to buy, is first going to look it up online no matter what it is. So if you are located in Dublin or plan on bringing a service to Dublin you should learn a bit about web design in Dublin. It is pretty simple after all since web design does not really vary that much. The key to web design in Dublin is simplicity and keeping in mind what you would like to convey about your company to those visiting your website. Today people generally have options where to go for whatever service, and nothing will get potential customers to close a web page quicker than seeing one they simply do not understand, don’t know how to navigate, or just looks generic or ugly.

Some tips for getting more business from your website:
1. Web Page Title tags: The website title tag for your page should reflect the target search phrase that you expect potential visitors looking for your product to type into Google for example.
2. Clear & simple web navigation: The way that visitors see the route to the information that they are seeking is via the Navigation linkages that your website provides. Make sure that your website navigation is clear and contains the main actions that a searcher is likely to want to carry out. Remember you only have approximately 3 seconds before the average web searcher bounces back to the search results
3. Main Website Heading (H1): Often the reason searchers bounce off a webpage is because it takes too long to figure out what the website they have landed on does and whether this is what the visitor needs. Therefore a clear heading saying in 5 or 6 words your Unique Selling Proposition, your USP and if possible you should include some of the words that appear in your target search phrase to increase keyword density.
4. Testimonials: One certain way to reduce your bounce rate is to enable your customers to give positive feedback and to feature this in a prominent place on your website home page or on one of your website pages.
5. News and special offers in your Blog: Another way that visitors make their mind up about a website is to see if there are any signs of life in terms of recent news. If it is clear from a web blog that features recent content that there are people actively working on the website it is a great confidence inspiring measure. Another advantage of a blog is that it allows you to feature time related special offers (for example 50% off if you signup before the end of this month). This can be captured by Google and other search engines and featured in search results for the product or service that you supply.
6. Motivation Architecture: Think about the person reading the page. If someone stops you in the street to sell you a charity subscription they don’t launch straight into what they want you to do. They start by attempting to establish a rapport with you. In the inanimate medium of the web this is often forgotten. The most motivating word in the English language is “you”, for example “We create solutions for you” or “We will look after you”. Once a degree of intimacy has been achieved then you seek to motivate the searcher to take action using power words in “calls to action” such as “Please call us now” or “Order now and save”.
7. The final item on your home page is your web page footer. Include your address here and your target search phrase as both of these will help your appearance in Google.

Highlights:
- 14% decrease in new limited companies formed in the second quarter 2008
- 4,082 new limited companies formed in Q2, 2008; 8,191 new companies formed this year
- Dublin remains the prime location for Irish businesses
- Growth in Dublin’s satellite towns continues, with Louth leading the way
Bank of Ireland Business Banking today (9 July 2008) issued its latest Business Start-up Barometer that tracks the number of business start-ups in Ireland. The Barometer shows that, despite the recent slowdown in the economy, 4,082 new businesses have been established in the last quarter. While this figure represents a 14% decrease in new limited companies formed compared to this time last year (4,765), the rate of decline is slowing. The number of start-up companies in Q1 this year (4,109) was 22% less than Q1 in 2007 (5,276). These figures suggest that the number of new companies being set up has improved somewhat, rather than declined further.

Nearly nine out of 10 internet searches in the UK in June were powered by Google, compared to four per cent for Yahoo and just over three per cent for MSN.
Hitwise found that, although the figures are down slightly year on year, search engines continue to be the primary way for internet users to navigate key industry categories in the UK.

According to Silicon Republic the survey by Praxis found that:
1. 95pc of the sites surveyed were estimated to have 10 visitors per day or less
2. 70pc of the sites had less than the required amount of content for Google to deem them ‘substantial’, so that they are being penalised for having insubstantial content.
3. Most of the sites covered for the survey had no meaningful statistics collection, which PraxisNow claimed would prevent them from knowing if the sites had lots of visitors.

In Omniserve’s opinion this is only going to change when Irish business start regarding their website as their “invisible staff member”. At the moment small businesses have little idea of what their website should be doing for them however if they made the attitude shift to regarding their website as an “invisible staff member” this would change rapidly.
We all know what we expect from staff members that we employ however it is clear that to date small business managers do not apply the same metrics to their website investment.
Characteristics of your invisible staff member…
- Available for work 24×7.
- Can carry out repetitive, mundane tasks without complaint.
- Can be extremely cost effective if used properly and given enough to do.
- Responds well to constructive criticism and monitoring.
